TOGAKURE RYU BIKEN-JUTSU
Ken Tai Ichi Jo

August 15th, 16th, & 17th, 2008
Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff, AZ

It’s that time of year again to head for the mountains. You and your training friends are invited to campout in the mountains of Northern Arizona and study the ancient martial axiom KENTAI ICHIJO, sword and body are one. To become one with your sword was the ultimate goal of traditional Japanese Budo. At this weekend seminar the principle of Juppo Sessho will be used to explore this martial axiom as it applies to Ninpo Taijutsu and the Ninja-to.

We will be utilizing the skills found in the ukemi gata from Togakure Ryu Taijutsu to begin to understand KENTAI ICHIJO. There will also be break away mini-sessions exploring: essential camping skills, kyoketsu shoge and traditional ways of throwing shurikens and ninja archery (yumi and ya); targets will be used not ukes! As always there will be night training on Saturday night under a full moon.

The chief instructor will be Peter Crocoll who is celebrating his 26th year of training with Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi. Peter travels to Japan three times per year to train with Soke and the Japanese Shihan. Hatsumi Sensei has ranked Peter at the Ku level of Judan.

We are camping with NO facilities. Please come prepared.

Please, No Alcohol and No Pets!

We are camping in the wilderness at over 8000' in elevation. Please be aware for symptoms of Altitude Sickness. Bring enough water to cover all of your needs for your entire stay. Headaches are common along with dehydration. Staying hydrated at this elevation is key to comfort. Begin hydrating the day before you come up. All food must be completely stored away for the night in vehicles. Due to common fire restrictions in the area, we may not be able to have fires or stoves, so be prepared to have food that does not require cooking. Also, please refrain from smoking in the camp area, general fire restrictions allow smoking only in buildings and enclosed vehicles. We are hoping for rain to offset fire danger and as this is monsoon time be prepared for some extreme weather changes. Nights are cool in the high country, please bring clothing to accommodate this. Layering is the suggested way to quickly adjust your comfort level throughout the ranges of temperature of the day. Sunscreen is suggested and insect repellent may be of some comfort during the daytime. Flashlights are not appreciated due to the nature of night training. Please use flashlights only as necessary, being considerate of other people working on night vision skills. Moving about in the darkness is just another part of training.

Payment will be $85 for the weekend or $50 per day.

    Attendance accepted through pre-registration only.
